Fixing your cars smashed side window
If you've had your car window smashed, it can be a frustrating and costly repair, not only in terms of money but also time.
Fixing and repairing some of the general problems that you have with your car will not only save you money, but will boost your confidence in understanding your car. Of course its easy to just get the garage to fix it, but for some of the more easy problems, like repairing the car windows you can give it a go yourself.
First prepare your workspace by getting some uninterrupted and clean space around your car. and laying down some hard wearing cloth to rest the car door window on it.
Get a few handy tools by your side including screwdrivers, and masking tape.
First you will have to remove the armrest, and door handle before you expose all the screws and fittings you need to remove from the door. The door interior part will snap of with some clips after you have removed all the screws, so you will have to gently prise it open with a flat head screw driver. Take you time while you do this, as there will be some soft parts that can easily get damaged if your too rough. These parts of the car door however are made to come off without too much handwork. This is the kind of thing that will be delegated to the local junior apprentice at the garage, so stay confident that you can do it too.
Once you exposed the mechanics inside the door, you should make sure you have some safety goggles on, and safety gloves, there will be alot of sharp bits of glass, and you should first remove all the larger bits, and then hover up the smaller pits. Once you've done that, give all the bits that some small shards might be hiding, with a damp cloth that you can dispose of after you finish.
Fitting the new car window
It is best to then maneuver the window down or up as soon as you are certain it is correctly set. It will guarantee you of its proper working. In the case of repairing car windows, there is no assumptions and you need to be sure that everything is done based on the set procedure.
You now need to take the new glass window, and fit it back into the mechanics of the door. The mechanism works with a lever hat controls the lifting or the turning of the window. Make sure you give it a quick test so you understand what is happening exactly.
Once your ready to place the car window in, use some rubber gloves to give you a good grip, and place it into position. You should now be able to just give the window a slight test, as it should be able to hold with the basic fittings, but if need be get someone to help while you hold it. One you are happy that everything looks to be ok, you can start to put back together the original fittings, and screws.
After you finish your car DIY you can look forward to the next smashed window you have! - Well maybe not exactly.
